Waiting on Wednesday (57)

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spines, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week, I'm super excited for The Glittering Court by Richelle Mead! The book was just announced this week, and I already can't wait to get my hands on it! Historical fantasy wonderfulness!

Synopsis:

Big and sweeping, spanning the refined palaces of Osfrid to the gold dust and untamed forests of Adoria, The Glittering Court tells the story of Adelaide, an Osfridian countess who poses as her servant to escape an arranged marriage and start a new life in Adoria, the New World. But to do that, she must join the Glittering Court.

Both a school and a business venture, the Glittering Court is designed to transform impoverished girls into upper-class ladies capable of arranging powerful and wealthy marriages in the New World. Adelaide naturally excels in her training and even makes a few friends: the fiery former laundress Tamsin and the beautiful Sirminican refugee Mira. She manages to keep her true identity hidden from all but one: the intriguing Cedric Thorn, son of the wealthy proprietor of the Glittering Court.

When Adelaide discovers that Cedric is hiding a dangerous secret of his own, together, they hatch a scheme to make the best of Adelaide’s deception. Complications soon arise—first, as they cross the treacherous seas from Osfrid to Adoria, and later, when Adelaide catches the attention of a powerful governor.

But no complication will prove quite as daunting as the potent attraction simmering between Adelaide and Cedric. An attraction that, if acted on, would scandalize the Glittering Court and make them both outcasts in wild, vastly uncharted lands. . .

Book Blitz: Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin

I am so excited that WOLF BY WOLF by Ryan Graudin releases today and that I get to share the news, along with an awesome giveaway!
If you haven’t yet heard about this wonderful book by Ryan, be sure to check out all the details below.

This blitz also includes a giveaway for a signed finished copy of the book with a special WOLF BY WOLF pin! US only. So if you’d like a chance to win, enter in the Rafflecopter at the bottom of this post.

Special intro from the author:

"Once upon a different time, there was a girl who lived in a kingdom of death. Wolves howled up her arm. A whole pack of them--made of tattoo ink and pain, memory and loss. It was the only thing about her that ever stayed the same.

Her story begins on a train."

And so begins the story of Yael, a girl who can change her appearance to mimic any other female. A girl who must win a 20,000 kilometer cross-continental motorcycle race from Germania to Tokyo so that she can have an audience with Adolf Hitler. A girl who has every intention of killing him.

Whenever I describe the premise of WOLF BY WOLF to people, the reactions I get are quite similar. It's the "are-you-insane-or-are-you-onto-something" face: dropped jaw, squiggly eyebrows. I must admit, I felt many of those same feelings when I first started penning Yael's story. Alternate history + sci-fi + epic motorcycle journey felt like a strange recipe for a novel. But I pushed through my fears and kept writing, and I couldn't be happier with the result. I, for one, don't think I'm insane, but I'll let you, dear reader, come up with your own conclusion.

Happy reading!

Waiting on Wednesday (56)

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spines, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week, I'm super excited for Untamed by A.G. Howard! I loved the Splintered series, and I can't wait to see a bit more from that world!

Synopsis:

A post-Ensnared collection of three stories—available in both print and e-versions.

Alyssa Gardner went down the rabbit hole and took control of her destiny. She survived the battle for Wonderland and the battle for her heart. In this collection of three novellas, join Alyssa and her family as they look back at their memories of Wonderland.

In Six Impossible Things, Alyssa recalls the most precious moments of her life after Ensnared, and the role magic plays in preserving the happiness of those she loves. Alyssa’s mother reminisces about her own time in Wonderland and rescuing the man who would become her husband in The Boy in the Web. And Morpheus delves into Jeb’s memories of the events of Splintered in The Moth in the Mirror, available in print for the first time.

This collection expands upon Ensnared's epilogue, and includes some deleted scenes to provide a “director’s cut” glimpse into the past and futures of our favorite Splintered characters.

Top Ten Authors You'd Love to See Write a Book Together

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish!

1. Wendy Higgins and Jennifer L. Armentrout - in an ideal world, this would also include Victoria Scott, but I'll take what I can get! Any sort of paranormal would do, but a crossover would be even better!

2. Sarah J. Maas and Victoria Aveyard - I would die if this happened

3. Michelle Hodkin and Mindy McGinnis - Imagine a creepy novel written by them...

4. Sandy Hall and Kasie West - Both their books are adorable, and the adorable would multiply with both of them.

5. Marie Rutkoski and Maggie Stiefvater - Their styles are very similar, but also very different, a perfect combo.

6. Cassandra Clare and Holly Black - *happy sigh*

7. R.C. Lewis and Marissa Meyer - Both write sci-fi fairy tale retellings, which would be cool to see combined.

8. Rachel Harris and Elizabeth Eulberg - The amount of adorableness would explode me.

9. Kresley Cole and Sarah J. Maas - The romance, the action, the fantasy, the wonderfulness.

First Impressions

This book is the love of my life. I was excited to read it as soon as I got as, since it's the fourth book in the series. Queen of Shadows is a fangirl's dream. I just want to snuggle this book and read it a million times. The book is super fast paced, and super fun. You won't be able to put it down! I don't know if I can review any more without spoiling, heck, I know I can't, so be warned! The non-spoilery part is over!

Characters

Aelin is the most kick-butt of kick-butt girls in existence. Kick-butt women more like. Aelin has finally shred the identity of Celaena Sardothien, and she means business. She's finally ready to accept her role as queen, and already I can tell that she'll be a great one. Aelin cares immensely for those close to her, and will do anything for them. I want Aelin to be my best friend.

There are ton more awesome and new primary and secondary characters. We see more of Aedion, who is awesome. I love his and Aelin's interactions. Even though they're cousins, it's like they're long-lost siblings. You know they'll do anything for each other, which is an awesome thing to see in a novel.

Lysandra is spectacular. She is spunky, sassy, and plain awesome. She's a courtesan who Aelin hated when they were younger, but now they realize they might be better off as friends.

Of course, I saved the best for last. If you haven't met Rowan, you don't know what you're missing. I love, love, love him. I ship him and Aelin SO much! He's perfect in every situation, except when it comes to some emotions. He and Aelin have been through similar situations, so they can relate to each other as well as grow closer because of their shared loss.

Writing

Sarah J. Maas is a goddess in human flesh. I devoured her words. I've actually already read Queen of Shadows twice. She spins words like other, I don't even know what. Her skill is unmatched by all who live. I've met Sarah once, a couple years ago, but I want to meet her again so I can give her the biggest of hugs.

World-Building

Considering this is the fourth book, you'd think all the world-building is done, but that is far from true. Sarah continually expends her world, and gives us new people and locales to explore. You really end up needing the map in the front of the book. Here it is for those who are curious:

It was fun being back in Rifthold after spending much of Heir of Fire in Wendlyn. It'll be even cooler to see Aelin in her homeland in the next book though. Now I just have to wait a year till I get my next fix.

Author Bio:

Sarah J. Maas is the author of the New York Times, USA Today, and internationally bestselling Throne of Glass series–Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, and Heir of Fire, and the series’ prequel, The Assassin’s Blade–as well as the New York Times and USA Today bestselling A Court of Thorns and Roses. She wrote the first incarnation of the Throne of Glass series when she was just sixteen, and it has now sold in twenty-three languages. Queen of Shadows, the fourth book in the Throne of Glass series, will release worldwide on September 1st, 2015.

A New York native, Sarah currently lives in Pennsylvania with her husband and dog. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Hamilton College in 2008 with a degree in Creative Writing and a minor in Religious Studies.

Waiting on Wednesday (55)

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spines, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week I'm excited for Signs Point to Yes by Sandy Hall. I loved her debut novel A Little Something Different and can't wait to read her new one. If it's anything like the first, it'll be adorable and romantic, one of my favorite kinds of novels.

Synopsis:

The author of A Little Something Different brings you the most adorkable romance ever.

Jane, a superstitious fangirl, takes an anonymous babysitting job to avoid an unpaid internship with her college-obsessed mom. The only problem? She’s babysitting the siblings of her childhood friend and new crush, Teo.

Teo doesn’t dislike Jane, but his best friend Ravi hates her, and is determined to keep them apart. So Teo’s pretty sure his plans for a peaceful summer are shot. His only hope is that his intermittent search for his birth father will finally pan out and he’ll find a new, less awkward home. Meanwhile, at Jane’s house, her sister Margo wants to come out as bisexual, but she’s terrified of how her parents will react.

In a summer filled with secrets and questions, even Jane’s Magic 8 ball can’t give them clear answers, but Signs Point to Yes.

Ten Books, Series, and Authors That I Stopped Reading

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish! I'm gonna focus on fairy tale retellings to be exact.

1. James Patterson - I loved his books when I was younger, but they got so bad that I couldn't read them anymore.

2. Down from the Mountain by Elizabeth Fixmer - I just can't.

3. Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman - I was bored, confused, or both.

4. Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor - I want to finish this someday, but I got really bored in the middle

5. Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry - I despised The Giver, on only read it and started Gathering Blue was for class.

6. 34 Pieces of You by Carmen Rodriguez - No thank you. I was not emotionally ready to read this book.

7. Gone by Michael Grant - I do not do any sort of horror/freaky novels, and this definitely falls under that category.

8. Uncomfortable positions - I can't really quit that, as any position I read in seems to get uncomfortable, but a girl can dream.

9. Temptation by Karen Ann Hopkins - I'm pretty sure the books got better, but I was getting so mad at the beginning of the book that I had to stop.

10. Beautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl - Someday I will finish these books. Today is not that day.
