Bad Girls Don't Die by Katie Alender

I liked Bad Girls Don't Die. It's well written, but a little young. It's like YA fiction for kids 10-12. I love the plot. The main character's little sister (Kasey) has been possessed by an evil ghost. Totally cool. The middle of the book is kinda weak though. It definitely could have been done better. There's a lot of people/places/etc. that isn't fully explained. Often, it will be explained as if it's an afterthought. Fine, but confusing

The main character is named Alexis. She's totally cool. Hates the stuck-up cheerleaders. By the end of the book, she becomes a walking contradiction of herself as she was at the beginning of the book. Suddenly, the mean cheerleaders get nice? Come on people. She isn't supremely self-confident either. Not like many heroins are though. I also feel like she's weak. She gives in too easily. Especially to her younger sister. There are various other characters who she (and I) have a love/hate relationship with, including Carter and Meghan.

I enjoyed reading Bad Girls Don't Die. It's a must read for younger readers (not too young though!). It was fairly easy. Besides the weak middle and pet-peeves I have with Alexis, it's really good. I give it a four star total.

Unearthly & Hallowed by Cynthia Hand

Cynthia hand is amazing! I read her debut novel Unearthly as soon as I could get my hands on it. Later, I picked up her sequel Hallowed at the same pace. I was doubtful of it and didn't end up reading it. Over the summer, I picked it up because I was bored. I do not regret it. I recently bought the books and have read both multiple times.

The main character is named Clara Gardner. She is part angel. Since she is part angel, she has a purpose. In the first book, she has a vision showing her her purpose. She moves to where her purpose takes place. She is supposed to save a boy named Christian. So, for part of the first book, she is trying to date him. Then, summer break begins. She falls in love with another boy. I can't say what the repercussions are though. But basically, she finds out in the second book.

I love these books. I truly could not predict a word they were going to say. Cynthia Hand has made me laugh, cry, scream, and everything in between. I love these books! If you're into the angel folklore (or not) this is for you. I give them a solid five stars.

Ruby Red & Sapphire Blue by Kerstin Gier

Oh my god! These books are amazing! I read the first one ages ago, and bought both books before Thanksgiving break. I do NOT regret it. The plot is amazing. I couldn't stop flipping pages. I finished Sapphire Blue in only hours. Again, they're amazing.

The main character is Gwyneth (Gwen) Shepherd. She is a very interesting character. I enjoy reading from her point of view. It's a very new idea for a YA book. Gwen and Gideon de Villiers (more on him in a moment) can both travel back in time. Gwen is the ruby and Gideon is the diamond. Now, onto Gideon. He is the male protagonist of the story, though sometimes it's doubtable. He can act like a jerk at times, especially to Gwen. But he also has his soft side.

I have one major problem with the story. There is a huge plot reveal that has not happened yet, but I figured it out in the first book. I won't tell you what it is, so it won't be spoiled for you. But other than that, the story is amazing! I love the books the tremendously. Oh, and the final book Emerald Green comes out next year. It has to be translated from German, so it may be a while. I'm putting up pictures of all three book covers. Anyway, I give it a solid five.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

It took me FOREVER to read Pride and Prejudice. It's written amazingly, but it's not what I'm used to. I went into the book not knowing what to expect. It was an old copy that had no description. As I got farther into the book, it got more and more interesting.

The old english was semi-hard to read but it was interesting to decipher. The main character Elizabeth Bennet is a lot like the heroins in modern stories, but for her time, she was very unique. She's a headstrong, stubborn girl who wants her to get way and won't be married unless she's in love. Even if the man offering marriage is rich.

I enjoyed reading the book and am glad it offered me a challenge. Even if it wasn't my favorite book in the world, it was a new style and type of writing. I love the idea that a girl is able to stand up for herself in a time when girls were often considered lower in society even then their own siblings. I give this book a solid four.
