Top Ten Book Titles That Could Be Crayola Crayon Colors

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and The Artsy Reader Girl. This week's theme is kinda ridiculous, which is just the way I like it! If you've ever looked closely at a Crayola crayon, you'll notice some of them have funky names like "Deep Space Sparkle", "Big Dip O'Ruby", "Banana Mania", and "Wild Blue Yonder". Today's task is to find some book titles of books I've enjoyed that would fit right in with these crazy colors!

1. Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake - This would be a great title for a blood-red crayon for all the creepy drawings kids make to freak out their parents!

2. Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian - As the name implies, this would be a gray, ashy color

3. These Rebel Waves by Sara Raasch - I'm imagining a pretty ocean blue like the Caribbean sea!

4. Cold Falling White by G. S. Prendergast - This would be one of those white crayons that you almost never use unless you're drawing on black paper

5. First Frost by Sarah Addison Allen - For this crayon, it would be a super light blue like the frost that tips plants in the morning in winter

6. A Beautiful Dark by Jocelyn Davies - Taking 'Dark' from the title, this crayon would be a pretty black

7. Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater - This color would be, you guessed it, blue!

8. House of Ivy and Sorrow by Natalie Whipple - Kids would grab this crayon and color every single plant in their picture with it, making a giant swath of green

9. Ember Queen by Laura Sebastian - I see this color as a reddish-orange that would invoke flames when used!

10. Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston - And to finish us out, this would be a patriotic coloring set that kids could use on either side of the pond!

Were you a coloring aficionado when you were a kid? Think my names hit the mark? Let me know in the comments!

Author Interview: Jocelyn Davies

How many of you have heard of YallFest? How many are attending? It's a one day book festival in Charleston, South Carolina. For more information, check out the official website! Each monday and friday leading up to the festival, I, along with a bunch of other bloggers, will be posting author interviews to help with promotion for the festival. Today, please welcome Jocelyn Davies! She is the author of the awesome A Beautiful Dark trilogy, which I reviewed here.

Author Interview:

Q. What one thing do you need to have when you write?

A. COFFEE! And a cocoon of silence.

Q. Describe your book in 5 words

A. Girl has angel blood, torn.

Q. What is the hardest line to write- the first or the last?

A. It differs from book to book--really, it's anyone's guess! Sometimes, the first line is hardest, because I'm just getting started and I'm not warmed up yet, and by the time I get to the end, I've got the momentum of an entire book to propel me into that last line. Then again, sometimes a first line just pops into my head, and the whole idea unfolds from there. Theres usually no way to know what is going to happen until it's happening, which is often the approach I take to writing.

Q. Best writing tip you ever received?

A. “Create interesting characters, give them an excuse to meet, and the story will write itself.”

Q. Tell us 5 random facts about yourself.

A. I'm a dog person--cats kind of freak me out.

I was a theater kid in high school. I used to dream of being an Oscar-winning actress.

I love everything about autumn.

I live a few blocks away from my best friend from high school.

In my day job, I'm also a children's book editor.

Q. What is your favorite genre to write in? To Read?

A. I love magical realism—a novel that's set in the real world, but ever-so-slightly different.

Q. At what point in the development of an idea do you know that it will become a full-length novel?

A. I usually have a pretty strong sense right from the moment the idea comes to me. I start writing knowing I’m embarking on a novel.

A Radiant Sky Cover Reveal

Okay, so today, an author I love, Jocelyn Davies revealed the cover for her final book in A Beautiful Dark series. It comes out on September 24, 2013. And now for the description

Synopsis:

Since the night of her seventeenth birthday, Skye has been torn between two opposites: Light and    Dark, the Order and the Rebellion, Devin and Asher.

But her decision shocked both sides—because she chose neither.
With the help of her friends, Skye forges her own path, setting out to gather an uprising of Rogues. The treacherous and elusive half-angels may be the key to maintaining the balance of fate and free will. But completing the mission her parents left unfinished is more difficult—and dangerous—than she could have imagined. And doing so comes at a cost: Her greatest love may now be a lethal enemy. Because it’s not just the Order that sees her as a threat who must be eliminated. The Rebellion does, too.
And both sides will do whatever it takes to win.
Dark days lie ahead, and if Skye is to survive, she’ll need to rely on her extraordinary powers and the strength of her will. Because she has a future—and a love—that’s worth fighting for.
The sweeping, darkly romantic story that began with A Beautiful Dark and gathered intensity in A Fractured Light comes to a thrilling conclusion in A Radiant Sky.

And now for the best part! The cover!
Let me ask. Do you love it as much as I do? It's definitely the best cover in the series. Are you excited for A Radiant Sky? Let me know in the comments!

A Fractured Light by Jocelyn Davies

Oh my god. I LOVED A Fractured Light. It was amazing, spectacular, went above and beyond my expectations, and left the first book in the dust! A Fractured Light is the sequel to A Beautiful Dark. I can't describe in words how awesome it is.

The main character is named Skye. She is a really refreshing read. She seems like one of the more real characters I read about. A lot of book characters seem fake and can't be related to a readers life. Skye can be. She always has this choice sitting in front of her. Join the Rebellion or the Order? Rebels or Guardians? Dark or Light? And through most of the book, she's trying to find the shades of grey in between. That can very much be related to my life and yours. Every day we make choices. Whether they are what to wear to school or what to do with your life. People often get stuck between two choices that don't seem good. Some give up, some just decide to suffer the bad, others try to find the options between. For the longest time, Skye feels trapped. She can't find another door, there is no window, and she hasn't been handed a sledgehammer to make one. Then, all of the sudden, she realizes that there isn't a roof and climbs right out of the room. The grey area is right in front of her when she figures out how to look.

The plot of the book is amazing. My opinions on what should happen changed drastically from the beginning to the end. I completely didn't see the end coming. And trust me, no one is what they seem. I give this book five stars.
