Top Ten Book Titles That Would Make Good Song Names

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and The Artsy Reader Girl.

1. Lies Like Poison by Chelsea Pitcher - This would probably be a break up song after the singer was cheated on

2. Darkness Becomes Her by Kelly Keaton - A song with this name should have some sapphic pining

3. Hourglass by Myra McEntire - I feel like this would be a song about feeling like you're running out of time

4. Take a Bow by Elizabeth Eulberg - This would be an upbeat song about how awesome you are

5. Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins - Much like the book, the singer would be be in love with someone who they know is dangerous/not good for them

6. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi - This actually is a song title, but my imaginary song would be about someone who feels like they're losing their mind/falling apart

7. Phoenix by Elizabeth Richards - This song would be about rising up from the ashes and overcoming something difficult

8. The Distance Between Us by Kasie West - Maybe the singer has a crush on someone, or they're dating but there is an emotional distance, whatever it is, they need to overcome something in order to be together

9. Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins - This would be a country song, maybe by Kacey Musgraves, about how the singer doesn't fit in with southern societal expectations and what she does about it

10. The Lovely Reckless by Kami Garcia - I think this would be a love song about someone who's taking a chance on love, and they aren't sure if it'll work out

I actually really liked doing this, so I might do more on Twitter in the future. What book titles do you think would make good songs?

Top Ten Books That Give Me Autumn Vibes

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and The Artsy Reader Girl. This list is based mostly, though not entirely, on color scheme.

1. The Burning Shadow by Jennifer L. Armentrout - The pinkish-red with the falling confetti makes me think of falling leaves.

2. Chosen at Nightfall by C.C. Hunter - The colors and the trees make me think of fall, and the birds make me think of birds migrating south for the winter.

3. Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas - This is the bright yellow of many of the falling leaves, and the sparks are the pops of red.

4. If I Should Die by Amy Plum - Some great fall coloring! The decals also make me think of vines snaking around buildings.

5. Endless by Jessica Shirvington - Orangey fall colors and falling feathers like falling leaves.

6. First Frost by Sarah Addison Allen - This book is really great for fall representation, as it literally centers around the first frost of the season! Plus, look at that gorgeous apple!

7. Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins - This is more early fall/late summer, but it makes me think of back to school.

8. Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi - This has some fall and some spring vibes, but the colors make me think of fall blooms.

9. Phoenix by Elizabeth Richards - Instead of a bright red phoenix feather, imagine a bright red leaf.

10. The Reckoning of Noah Shaw by Michelle Hodkin - Fall colors with sparks like falling leaves!

Top Ten Cover Changes I Had FEELINGS About

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and The Artsy Reader Girl. These are cover changes I both loved and hated, and I'll make a note with each one.

1. Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas - This series changed covers after the first book. While I like the feeling the new covers evoke, the character on the cover of book one looks more like the main character.

2. Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers - This is an instance when both covers are good, but in different ways. I loved the original covers! I feel like they do a good job of saying 'assassin nuns'. But the new cover art is gorgeous!

3. The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare - I definitely prefer the new covers for this series. The old ones weren't bad, but the were very 'big chest, chopped off head'. The new covers express more emotion and give a better hint at the story.

4. Royals/Prince Charming by Rachel Hawkins - For this book, I definitely like the original cover/title better. The bright pink cover with sparkles and crown gets across the spunky vibe of the main character. That said, the cover/title change does work for book two.

5. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi - This cover change was without a doubt for the benefit. The original cover was more to the style of the time, but the new cover is SO MUCH prettier! I love the eyeballs, and I love how the eye style changes to reflect each book.

6. Exquisite Captive by Heather Demetrios - In this case I prefer the original covers. The new covers are nice, but the original was just so pretty.

7. Across the Universe by Beth Revis - This book actually went through three cover renditions. I like the original cover, with the two figures kissing in space. The second cover isn't horrible, but it's a little tacky. The third cover is cool stylistically, but on the boring side.

8. Poison Princess by Kresley Cole - The new and old covers each have their benefits and drawbacks. The original cover, which I lean towards, gives a good image of the characters, but does fall into the early 2010s 'couple on a cover' trope. The new cover has no character art, but it's very pretty and does a good job of representing the world.

9. Broken Beautiful Hearts by Kami Garcia - For me, the original cover is much nicer than the paperback. The cover shares the slightly dark story that also has a good romance. The white background on the new cover just doesn't work for me, and it ends up looking a little tacky.

10. Graceling by Kristin Cashore - All in all, this cover design isn't too different. The main thing that changes is the background design. I think the knife works really well on both covers. I feel like the original cover gives it a bit of a historical vibe while the new cover lends itself more towards fantasy. To me, the change actually looks a bit similar to the Grave Mercy cover change. I like the new cover a bit more, only because the background is a bit nicer.

Waiting on Wednesday (160)

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week I am super excited for Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins! Say it with me now "lesbian princesses". I don't understand how someone couldn't be excited. I am so excited to read about these two young women falling in love. I really just can't wait to see what happens. Also, I am a sucker for any plot line that has to do with royalty. Just count me in. I already know this book is going to be fun, and I encourage you to pick it up when it comes out. I know I will be!

Synopsis:

Millie Quint is devastated when she discovers that her sort-of-best friend/sort-of-girlfriend has been kissing someone else. And because Millie cannot stand the thought of confronting her ex every day, she decides to apply for scholarships to boarding schools . . . the farther from Houston the better.

Millie can't believe her luck when she's accepted into one of the world's most exclusive schools, located in the rolling highlands of Scotland. Everything about Scotland is different: the country is misty and green; the school is gorgeous, and the students think Americans are cute.

The only problem: Mille's roommate Flora is a total princess.

She's also an actual princess. Of Scotland.

At first, the girls can barely stand each other--Flora is both high-class and high-key--but before Millie knows it, she has another sort-of-best-friend/sort-of-girlfriend. Even though Princess Flora could be a new chapter in her love life, Millie knows the chances of happily ever afters are slim . . . after all, real life isn't a fairy tale . . . or is it?

This second book in Rachel Hawkins' fun, flirty Royals series brings a proud perspective to a classic romance.
