Characterize It (2)

Welcome to Characterize It, a meme held every Thursday and hosted by The YA Book Butterfly. It's a weekly meme, each week featuring a different characteristic. Basically, each week, she'll pick a new characteristic and participating bloggers as well as herself will choose a character that fits that description. For more information, look here.

This week's theme is the Wicked Witch of the West-favorite villain

Okay, a warning for those who don't know. I've seen the musical Wicked. Basically, it shows that Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) was not the bad guy of the story. I can forevermore not hate her character. I now see her as a good guy. With that in mind, I will give you both my favorite villain and favorite villain-turned-good-guy!

Villain:

Queen Levana from The Lunar Chronicles! Why? She's complicated. Levana is in no way a good guy, but by the end of Scarlet, readers know that she has a complicated history. Even though she's evil through and through, I pity her, which is a good way to show a villain.

Villain-Turned-Hero

Pheonix from the Embrace series by Jessica Shirvington. Okay, technically, he's a hero-turned-villain-turned-hero-again but whatever. The entire time I was reading the first four books, I wanted the main character Violet to end up with Pheonix and not her soul mate, Lincoln. Pheonix struck me as a deeper character who simply made me feel more. The actions he did were because of years of being alone and abandoned, and being heartbroken by the main character. You can't help but love him.

Which character(s) would you pick?

  1. I never finished the Embrace series, but I do remember liking Phoenix! And seeing as Levana was my choice also, I certainly agree with that :-)
    Thanks for joining in!
