Don't Look Back By Jennifer L Armentrout

Title: Don't Look Back
Author: Jennifer L Armentrout
Publisher: Hyperion Teen
Series: Standalone
Release: April 15, 2014
Pages: 369
Review: 5 Stars

Is there anything Jennifer L Armentrout can't right? Heck no. Don't Look Back was AMAZING! Though I don't read a lot of it, I love the YA thriller genre. Also, Jennifer is a book-making machine! She has something like fifteen books coming out this year, two of which I've already read! Don't Look Back was a creepy, fun ride that I couldn't put down!

The main character is Samantha, Sam for short. She reappears four days after she went missing with no memory, she doesn't even know her own name, but without the girl she disappeared with, her supposed 'best friend' Cassie. Sam learns that before she went missing, she took mean girl to the extreme. Sam realizes that the life she was living before is not one for her, and that she honestly doesn't like who she was before. Sam is a likable character that I wish I could read more of, but I believe this is a standalone. I loved Sam's twin brother Scott. He was simply adorable. It was really interesting seeing Sam reunite with some friends and see the truth about others.

While I had some suspicions about how it would go down, I was not prepared for the full extent. I had a few guesses about characters that were involved in some way, but whoa! I definitely did NOT see that end coming! Thank Jennifer for an amazing, surprising ending! The writing was very well done. I feel that it could have used a bit more world-building, especially with her brother Scott and friend Julie, but can be forgiving due to the fact that Sam doesn't have her memory to help out the readers. If you haven't already, run out to the store and get this book immediately! It was SO good! Also, I want to note that this is Jennifer's first book in hardback, at least in YA. I give Don't Look Back a fat five stars!

Synopsis:

Samantha is a stranger in her own life. Until the night she disappeared with her best friend, Cassie, everyone said Sam had it all-popularity, wealth, and a dream boyfriend.

Sam has resurfaced, but she has no recollection of who she was or what happened to her that night. As she tries to piece together her life from before, she realizes it’s one she no longer wants any part of. The old Sam took “mean girl” to a whole new level, and it’s clear she and Cassie were more like best enemies. Sam is pretty sure that losing her memories is like winning the lottery. She’s getting a second chance at being a better daughter, sister, and friend, and she’s falling hard for Carson Ortiz, a boy who has always looked out for her-even if the old Sam treated him like trash.

But Cassie is still missing, and the facts about what happened to her that night isn’t just buried deep inside of Sam’s memory-someone else knows, someone who wants to make sure Sam stays quiet. All Sam wants is the truth, and if she can unlock her clouded memories of that fateful night, she can finally move on. But what if not remembering is the only thing keeping Sam alive?
