Top Ten Settings I'd Like to See More Of

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and The Artsy Reader Girl. I'd love to see more YA in other countries than the US that are more than just layovers for rich characters. Here are some of the settings, both modern and historical, that I'd like to see!

1. Ancient Greece - give me a teenager in Ancient Greece struggling with a belief in the gods

2. African countries during WW2 - most novels set during WW2 are in England, France, or Germany. It would be interesting to see how other countries and populations were affected

3. The Caribbean - specifically when many islands were overthrowing their colonial rulers

4. Hawaii - modern day, but with someone who actually lives there, not a character on vacation

5. Iron Age Britain - a lot of cool historical stuff happened then

6. Brazil - there are so many YA readers from Brazil, it would be cool to have a book set there

7. Canada - specifically, a teen racing the Iditarod

8. The Great Barrier Reef - with the rise of college-aged YA, it'd be cool to see a character on a research trip with a professor

I can't think of any more, but feel free to add your ideas in the comments!

  1. I love everything about your post this week! Africa during World War II would be particularly interesting, although I'd read books set in all of these times/places.

  2. Yes to #2 and #7 especially. I read a book recently (THE WILD INSIDE) that is set in Alaska and features a teen Iditarod racer, but it wasn't really about the Iditarod unfortunately. I would have liked it a lot more if it was.
