Top Ten Books I'd Want With Me on a Desert Island

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and That Artsy Reader Girl. Hmm, so this topic is really about books I like to reread. I could always bring new books, but who knows if I'd want to read them more than once. But a book I love and can reread on repeat? Now there's a lifesaver. And bonus points if it has survival tips!

1. The Scandal of It All by Sophie Jordan - This is one of my favorite books to reread, and would be important to keep my spirits up!

2. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas - Along with being a great book, Feyre has to fend for herself now and then, and I might pick up some survival ideas!

3. My One and Only Duke by Grace Burrowes - This another favorite book to reread

4. Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini - I first read this in middle school, and it was my #1 favorite for a long time. This would be helpful when nostalgia hit and to entertain because it's a really good book!

5. Poison Princess by Kresley Cole - Since main character Evie has to survive during the apocalypse, I bet this great book would have some helpful survival tips

6. Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins - It's important to alternate the survival books with books that never fails to make you smile!

7. Goddess in the Machine by Lora Beth Johnson - A desert island will seem easy after reading everything Andra goes through, helping to put my struggles in perspective

8. Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston - This is an entertaining romance and it will remind me that I may be stuck, but at least I'm not dealing with politicians *shivers*

9. Wilder Girls by Rory Power- While it might scare me at night, this book would also keep me informed on how to deal with strange wildlife

10. Last Will and Testament by Dahlia Adler - Last, but not least, this romance balances the warm and fuzzies with hard times and grief, helpful for my own emotions if I'm all alone

What books would you want to bring to a desert island? A sensible field guide or entertaining novels?

Quarantine Releases (52)

It's the one year anniversary of Quarantine Releases! I can't believe I've been doing this feature for a full year. In that time, we've showcased hundreds of books and authors with new releases. I plan to continue Quarantine Releases, though hopefully in healthier times (and eventually with a name change). There are so many upcoming books that I'm excited to read and I want to share them with y'all!

When We Were Strangers by Alex Richards

Seventeen-year-old Evie Parker is devastated in the wake of her father’s sudden death. But she knows something her mother doesn’t: the day of his heart attack, her dad was planning to move out. After finding his packed bags, an impulsive Evie puts everything away, desperate to spare her mom more heartache.

To make matters worse, Evie soon learns the reason her father was going to leave: he had been dating his twenty-two-year-old receptionist, Bree, who is now six months pregnant. Desperate to distract herself, Evie signs up for a summer photography class where she meets a motley crew of students, including quirky and adorable Declan. Still, Evie can’t stop thinking about her father’s mistress. Armed with a telephoto lens, she caves to her curiosity, and what starts as a little bit of spying on Bree quickly becomes full-blown stalking. And when an emergency forces Evie to help Bree, she learns there’s more to the story than she ever knew…

Alex Richards crafts an addicting and compelling new story about betrayal, complicated family secrets, and getting to the heart of what matters — ultimately asking readers how far they’d be willing to go to unravel the truth.

Top Ten Books I Read in One Sitting (or Would Have If I Could've)

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and That Artsy Reader Girl. I've been enjoying binge reading books this summer, so there's a number that I've really liked! I've been devouring a bunch of historical romance novels as well, so the list is a little romance-heavy.

1. Wicked Intentions by Elizabeth Hoyt - I'm actually planning to binge read this whole series, but the next three books are all checked out from the library!

2. A Duke in Time by Janna MacGregor - A great start to a new series!

3. All These Bodies by Kendare Blake - This book is amazing but terrifying! I highly recommend checking it out when it releases in September!

4. The Wrong Marquess by Vivienne Lorret - I was a little worried about the premise where she has a crush on a different guy, but it worked really well!

5. The Passing Playbook by Isaac Fizsimons - I love soccer and soccer books, so combining that with queer characters was like the book was written with me in mind!

6. If This Gets Out by Sophie Gonzales and Cale Dietrich - I got approved for this on Netgalley and immediately dived in, and the book was amazing! It doesn't come out until December, but I promise it will be worth the wait!

7. The Hellion's Waltz by Olivia Waite - Quiet possibly my favorite book in this historical romance series featuring f/f leads!

8. The Viscount Made Me Do It by Diana Quincy - I loved the first book, and this one lived up to it! Plus, I love to support diverse historical romances! It releases in a week and you'll definitely want to read it!

9. The Girls I've Been by Tess Sharpe - Prepare for *all* the twists and turns in this one folks! You won't be able to put it down until you know what happens!

In the Same Boat is the hugely entertaining blend of romance and thrilling adventure that you never knew you needed.

Sadie Scofield is just a few days away from the race of a lifetime. The Texas River Odyssey may be 260 miles and multiple days of arduous canoeing where every turn of the river reveals new dangers-downed trees, alligators, pitch black night-but those dangers pale in comparison to going another year knowing that her father is ashamed of her.

Last year, Sadie caused a disastrous wreck that ended her father's twenty year streak of finishes, and he's never looked at her the same. Now, she knows that finishing the race with her brother, Tanner, is her one shot to redeem herself. She's ready for anything...except Tanner ditching her for another team at the last minute.

Sadie grits her teeth and accepts that she has to team up with Cully, her former best friend turned worst enemy. It's irritating enough that he grew up to be so attractive, but once they're on the river it turns out he's ill-prepared for such a dangerous race. But as the miles pass, the pain of the race builds, they uncover the truth about their feuding families, and Sadie's feelings for Cully begin to shift. Quarantine Releases (50)

We've reached a milestone over here! Today marks the 50th post of Quarantine Releases! While 50 alone is a fun number, it also means that we're only two weeks out from the one year anniversary of this feature. It's hard to imagine that we've been in the pandemic as long as we have, especially considering this feature started four months after the pandemic actually started. It feels like a weird thing to celebrate, almost a year and a half of quarantine, but I've featured so many good books by authors who have had to deal with especially trying times that I think any bits of joy are warranted.

The Taking of Jake Livingston by Ryan Douglass

Get Out meets Holly Jackson in this YA social thriller where survival is not a guarantee.

Sixteen-year-old Jake Livingston sees dead people everywhere. But he can't decide what's worse: being a medium forced to watch the dead play out their last moments on a loop or being at the mercy of racist teachers as one of the few Black students at St. Clair Prep. Both are a living nightmare he wishes he could wake up from. But things at St. Clair start looking up with the arrival of another Black student--the handsome Allister--and for the first time, romance is on the horizon for Jake.

Unfortunately, life as a medium is getting worse. Though most ghosts are harmless and Jake is always happy to help them move on to the next place, Sawyer Doon wants much more from Jake. In life, Sawyer was a troubled teen who shot and killed six kids at a local high school before taking his own life. Now he's a powerful, vengeful ghost and he has plans for Jake. Suddenly, everything Jake knows about dead world goes out the window as Sawyer begins to haunt him. High school soon becomes a different kind of survival game--one Jake is not sure he can win.

Wings of Shadow by Nicki Pau Preto

In the heart-stopping finale to the Crown of Feathers trilogy, which #1 New York Times bestselling author Kendare Blake calls “absolutely unforgettable,” Veronyka must face her most devastating enemy yet: her own sister.

I had a sister, once…

Veronyka is no longer an orphaned stable boy or a nameless Phoenix Rider apprentice: she is the daughter of Pheronia Ashfire, the last queen of the Golden Empire…and the niece of Avalkyra Ashfire, the resurrected rebel queen who tore the empire apart.

We shone brightly, burned fiercely.

Now that the secret is out, everyone at the Eyrie treats Veronyka differently, and with Tristan still a hostage of the scheming Lord Rolan—and Sev with him as a spy—Veronyka feels very much alone. Except for her beloved phoenix, Xephyra, of course, and her new friend, Kade, who has his own reasons for wanting to save Tristan.

Was it always going to come down to this? Sister against sister? Darkness against light?

Veronyka is determined to do whatever it takes to get Tristan back, even if that means revealing her identity to the world and inheriting a throne she’s not sure she wants. But when she discovers that Avalkyra has bonded with a strix—a legendary creature of darkness that feeds off the life force of others—Veronyka realizes she has more to deal with than an encroaching war with the empire. Val is willing to destroy everything to get her revenge on a world that rejected her, and if Veronyka wants to bring peace to the empire and Pyra alike, she must face down her sister once and for all.

The world began with Ashfire queens…perhaps they will also be its destruction.

Lots of great books coming out this week! I'm worried it'll be too scary for me, but I'm seeing a lot of hype for The Taking of Jake Livingston! I'm a fan of Amy Tintera, so I expect I'll be reading All These Warriors in the near future. And Up All Night has a great lineup that I think lots of readers will enjoy!
