Top Ten Books in a School Setting

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and That Artsy Reader Girl. It's back to school time for a lot of folks (I actually started two weeks ago) and this week we have a back to school freebie. Since I'm a big YA fan, I thought I'd feature ten books I enjoyed that mostly take place at school!

1. Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead - While this series is older, with the TV adaption coming out soon, I expect to see a resurgence in its popularity!

2. Forward March by Skye Quinlan - This debut book takes place a boarding school where the main character plays in a band! It's a great contemporary featuring a sapphic ace romance!

3. A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro - This series is a great play on the Sherlock Holmes story, and I just love Jamie and Charlotte!

4. Wilder Girls by Rory Power - The titular girls may not be taking many classes anymore (plague has hit their boarding school after all), but we've got a school setting, so I'm counting it!

5. Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter - These books are so fun and we get to watch Cammie and her friends be totally kick butt! While great for all ages, this series is perfect for kids transitioning from middle to high school!

6. Girls With Sharpe Sticks by Suzanne Young - Set in the not-too-distant future, a group of teen girls attend a boarding school to train to be the perfect... wife? Soon enough, rebellion is brewing...

7. Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Reese Brennan, Maureen Johnson, and Robin Wasserman - Taking place within the Shadowhunter world, we follow Simon in the present and a cast of characters in the past as they have adventures at the Shadowhunter Academy in Idris.

8. On the Subject of Unmentionable Things by Julia Walton - You might have seen this new release in a recent post, and I devoured the book earlier this week! While the whole book doesn't take place at school, being in high school and how adults control it is an important part of the book

9. Home Field Advantage by Dahlia Adler - Everyone needs to read this great sapphic romance between the cheerleader and the quarterback!

10. Not My Problem by Ciara Smyth - For our final book, we follow a main character who starts doing favors for classmates after pushing a girl down the stairs to help her cut back on extracurriculars.

Do you have some favorite books that take place in school? The social dynamics of school (especially boarding schools) is so interesting and unique to childhood, that I'm not surprised it makes up a good chunk of YA and kids fiction!
