It's giveaway time! I hope you're as excited as I am for this book!

About two weeks from now, the amazing Laurie Halse Anderson is going to be at Quail Ridge Books and Music in Raleigh. And guess who else is going to be there. Me! I also happen to have an extra ARC of Ashes, which means it's giveaway time.

Here's the deal. The giveaway will run from now until the day before the signing, which is October 20. I will pick a winner and need a response ASAP! So be checking your emails right around then! I'll get the book signed for you at the event, and get it send out within the next week!

Sadly, this is US only. BUT! I will be giving away some assorted swag, including whatever swag I get at the event, and that will be international!

Before I post the giveaway, here's some info about Ashes, and the first book in the series, Chains!

Synopsis:

Freedom for one, freedom for all?

That’s the question that burns in Isabel’s mind as she and Curzon forge on through chaos and fear toward the dream that’s kept them alive for so many years: freedom. But her dream of living not as a “runaway” but as a free person with land and a family of her own seems impossibly far away. That dream hinges on one thing: finding her little sister, Ruth. It’s been years since Ruth was stolen from her. Is she even alive? And if Isabel can find her, how will they make it safely through the war between the Patriots and the British that rages on as dangerously as ever, while bounty hunters try to kidnap them at every turn?

In the American Revolution, one must pick a side in order to survive. But how can you care about a nation’s freedom when the very same nation has kept you in chains?

Synopsis:

If an entire nation could seek its freedom, why not a girl?

As the Revolutionary War begins, thirteen-year-old Isabel wages her own fight… for freedom.  Promised freedom upon the death of their owner, she and her sister, Ruth, in a cruel twist of fate become the property of a malicious New York City couple, the Locktons, who have no sympathy for the American Revolution and even less for Ruth and Isabel.  When Isabel meets Curzon, a slave with ties to the Patriots, he encourages her to spy on her owners, who know details of British plans for invasion.  She is reluctant at first, but when the unthinkable happens to Ruth, Isabel realizes her loyalty is available to the bidder who can provide her with freedom.

From acclaimed author Laurie Halse Anderson comes this compelling, impeccably researched novel that shows the lengths we can go to cast off chains, both physical and spiritual.

  1. My favorite historical fiction book is probably The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, but I've enjoyed a variety: Outlander, The Orphan Train, The Nightingale, The Bronze Horseman, The Help, Water for Elephants, and several others. I haven't read this series at all yet, but I've read at least three of Laurie's other books (Speak, Wintergirls, The Impossible Knife of Memory). Thanks for the great chance.
